53% pass as WAEC releases 2016 May/June results

The new breakdown of results shows that there is a significant rise in number of candidates who passed
– WAEC representative says withheld results would be analysed and proper actions taken
Approximately 53% of students who sat for the 2016 May/June West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have passed.
According to the results released on Friday, August 5, by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Lagos, 137,295 candidates (representing 8.89%) had their results withheld.
The total number of candidates who passed had credit passes in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics was 878,040 which represented 52.97%, a stark contrast to the 2014 and 2015 breakdown where 31.28% and 38.68% respectively had the same ratings.

Vanguard quotes Olu Adenipekun, the Nigerian head of WAEC as saying:
“the cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the Council in due course for consideration.”
He informed also that 1,552,758 candidates sat for this year’s examination May/June examination, explaining further that out of the 1,544,234 who sat for the exams,
“a total of 1,014,573 candidates, representing 65.70% obtained six (6) credits and above; one million one hundred sixty seven thousand four hundred and eighty four (1,167,484) candidates, representing 75.60% obtained five (5) credits and above, while one million two hundred and eighty two thousand two hundred and four (1,282,204) candidates, representing 83.03% obtained credit and above in four (4) subjects.”
1,370,049 candidates, representing 88.72% obtained credit and above in three subjects just as 1,438,679 candidates, representing 93.16% had credit passes and above in two subjects.
In other news, Fabian Benjamin, the head of Media and Information at the Joint Matriculations Board (JAMB), has released a statement containing the exact criteria for 2016 admission.
This latest development is coming after information on the examination board’s website had indicated that there would be a new point system to grant students admission to tertiary institutions.
According to the report made available by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, July 10 in Lagos, it was gathered that the admission of candidates into tertiary institutions will be based purely on three pillars which include: merit, catchment and educationally less developed states.

My name is Kelvin and i am from Plateau state, i just got my gce withheld results released yesterday with the help of Mr Austine in the waec office, it was my second time of writing this same waec gce.I believed that Mr Austine is a person that God have sent to help all of us that have been writing waec for many years and it is a wise decision for all those that are having problems in their waec if you have a cancelled result or your result is withheled and you want to upgrade any of your waec result he is the right person to call contact him on 08147291499 for help
